Orbis, a leading UK care provider, which is opening a state-of-the-art school in Tewkesbury, is on the lookout for people interested in working with children with autism.
Abbey Rose will provide specialist education and home services to 30 children who have complex needs associated with autism when it opens next month.
The school’s owner, Orbis Education and Care, is engaging and training locals with an interest in the field of special needs to help raise awareness of issues around the holistic care and education of individuals with autism ahead of Abbey Rose’s official launch in early March.
Situated on a 17-acre site and formerly known as Southwick Park, Orbis Abbey Rose school and residential home is being given new life as a haven for young people with complex needs associated with autism, after it closed whilst owned by the Cambian Group in April 2018.
More than 30 support workers and team leaders are being recruited in the first instance to bring the new site to life, with opportunities for all involved to study towards a Health and Social Care Diploma in the process. Overall, around 300 jobs will be created at the site, with additional teaching, clinical, housekeeping, administration and other support roles set to be created when the facility is at capacity.
Stephen Colley, Head of Care at Abbey Rose, explained: “Caring for and educating children and young adults with autism is one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. Making a meaningful difference to the lives of children and adults with additional needs is an amazing experience, challenging at times but the job satisfaction is immense.
“Experience is something which comes with time, but true understanding and compassion cannot be taught. Those with an instinct for caring have a real opportunity at Orbis Abbey Rose, therefore, not only to improve the lives of young people who need their support but to also develop their own skill-set and professional outlook too.”
Orbis Education and Care runs 15 schools, residential homes and facilities for children and adults in England and Wales which support people with complex needs associated with autism. The company now employs around 580 people.
