Encore Care Homes is introducing a revolutionary new form of dementia training to its care homes in Dorset, enabling healthcare professionals and members of the community to experience what it’s like to live with dementia.

The complimentary Dementia Champions Suits training is a fully immersive experience that transports you into the world of someone living with dementia. It will educate participants on the difficulties of everyday life that someone with dementia faces and the symptoms that it causes.

Encore manages three care homes in Dorset and Hampshire. Great Oaks in Bournemouth, Encore’s latest addition, is holding the first free Dementia Champions Suits training session on Thursday, 4th October. The session is split into two time slots which gives attendees the option to take part in a three-hour training session either at 9.30am or 1pm at the care home.

Rachel Dryden, Chief Executive Officer of Encore, said: “Following the success of our previous Virtual Dementia Tour, we couldn’t think of a better time to launch our new Dementia Champions Suits training than during World Alzheimer's Month. Dementia is a condition which can take many different forms. It can severely affect vision and the other senses which can create a feeling of confusion, anxiety and fear.

“We want to ensure that the community is able to understand the effects of dementia by experiencing it first-hand for themselves, so that they are able to help people affected by the condition as best as they can.

“We pride ourselves on being a dementia resource for the community and hope to help healthcare professionals and relatives communicate and better connect with those with dementia in a whole new way.”
