A Care Champion in the Bluebird Care Herefordshire team has won the Home Care Worker award at this year’s Health and Social Care Awards.

Helen Williams, who joined the Herefordshire-based team in 2017, has impressed her colleagues and bosses with her hard work and dedication since joining.

Despite having little experience in the care sector, Helen quickly took to her role and has now won two awards since starting. She was awarded Probationer of the Year in 2017 thanks to her attitude towards the job and her compassion and understanding when dealing with her customers.

These awards honour those unsung heroes in various categories of care, who regularly go the extra mile in caring for the residents of Herefordshire. Another member of the Bluebird Care Herefordshire team was shortlisted for this award. Chris Fishbourne, a very well-respected care assistant, was a worthy finalist of this award.

A colleague of Helen’s said: “When we are struggling to cover calls it is always Helen who steps up, despite having put in a long day. Her stamina during this year’s bouts of heavy snow was astonishing.

“Never grumpy or moody, her black humour often raises the team spirit. As the well-deserved winner of our Probationer of The Year Award for 2017, her modest response was that she was relieved we did not feel she was rubbish at her job.”
