Booking has now opened for the second conference of Namaste Care International, to be held on Friday 27th September 2019 in London.
Namaste Care International, a global initiative to help educate individuals and healthcare providers about a programme for people in the advanced stages of disease, including dementia, launched in London in September 2018.
The word ‘Namaste’ means “to honour the spirit within” and Namaste Care honours the individual receiving its services. Developed and pioneered in the USA by Professor Joyce Simard, Namaste Care has two basic principles: a loving touch approach to all interactions, and a calm environment.
Delegates at this year’s conference, which will be held at the ORTUS Learning & Events Centre, will hear from speakers in the forefront of the worldwide Namaste Care movement, Professor Ladislav Volicer, University of South Florida; Dr Hanneke Smaling, Leiden University Medical Center; Min Stacpoole, Nurse Researcher; Isabelle Latham, University of Worcester; Professor Catherine Walshe, University of Lancaster; Dr Michael Verde, Memory Bridge.
The conference is designed especially for care and nursing managers, CEOs, academics and decision makers, to provide them with the latest information, research and best practice in Namaste Care.
Professor Joyce Simard, Namaste Care International Founder and Honorary Chair, commented: “Namaste Care helps people with advanced illness to live, not simply exist, for as long as possible. It improves the end-of-life experience for the person with a terminal disease, their families and carers. When I created Namaste Care in a Vermont veterans’ home in 2003, I had no idea it would be adopted around the world, so it’s very exciting to be involved in this global organisation.”
