SHEFFIELD CARE HOME RATED ‘GOOD’ FOUR MONTHS AFTER OPENING

Laura Higginbottom, Managing Director at Horizon Care.

A Sheffield-based care centre which opened its doors at the end of last year has been awarded an overall ‘Good’ rating following its first visit from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Wood Hill Lodge opened its doors just four months ago and, during a two-day inspection by the CQC, it was rated ‘Good’ in all key areas. The centre forms part of the Wood Hill Care Complex which was pioneered by family-run care business Horizon.

Horizon recognised that Sheffield faced an acute shortage of purpose-built facilities capable of supporting individuals with complex care needs and their families. The purpose-built facility provides short-term respite care for individuals living with multiple and complex needs.

Inspectors concluded that Wood Hill Lodge was “safe, effective, caring, responsive to residents needs and well-led”, and awarded the facility an overall ‘Good’ rating in all areas.
The service was praised for its “detailed and demonstrative” risk assessment procedures, the safety of the building, staff recruitment and training processes and the standards of care provided by staff members.

Throughout the inspection, residents were asked their views and opinions on the service provided at Wood Hill Lodge, with one resident stating: “I love the staff, they are my friends.”

Relatives of residents were also asked their thoughts on the overall service and staff members, prompting positive responses, such as: “I really do trust the staff; they seem really competent and well trained.”

Staff members also spoke highly of their job role and the management team at Wood Hill Lodge.

Laura Higginbottom, Managing Director at Horizon Care, said: “Receiving such positive feedback, especially from our clients, is a reflection of the dedication and commitment of our members of staff to provide a safe and friendly environment which supports individuals and their families with the dignity and respect they rightly deserve.”
