Residents of Kingsgate care home in East Kilbride have swapped footstools for milking stools, with a special visit from Müller Milk and Ingredients’ interactive dairy cow, Bella, to mark World Milk Day.
Kingsgate’s neighbours, Müller Milk and Ingredients, loaned the care home the special guest and donated some milk and yoghurts for the grand opening of its newly improved courtyard area, which had been revamped with help from residents Mary McKay and James Cunningham’s families.
The home planned a special barbeque for staff, residents, families and friends to enjoy and celebrate in the courtyard, decorated in beautifully bright colours geared towards residents living with dementia.
Isobel Waugh, a resident whose father was a milkman, was chosen to cut the ribbon and unveil the courtyard at the barbeque.
Isobel said: “I feel honoured to have been chosen to cut the ribbon at our barbeque. The visit from Bella the Cow was wonderful too, everyone had so much fun learning how to milk her.”
Georgina De’Lara, Home Manager at Kingsgate Care Home, said: “We’re really grateful for the support we have received from Müller Milk and Ingredients for our World Milk Day celebration. Everyone had a great afternoon, especially our friends from Cathkin Nursery!
“A lot of hard work has been put into improving our courtyard and it was lovely to be able to give our helpers the celebration they deserve. The enhanced area is much more accessible for our residents, and the bright colour choices are geared towards our residents living with dementia, as well as being aesthetically pleasing!”
