Neel Radia, the National Chair of the National Association of Care Catering (NACC), successfully completed the Virgin London Marathon on 28th April, raising nearly £6000 to date for St Luke’s Hospice, Harrow & Brent.
Novice runner Neel went from couch to marathon in just six months to conquer the world-famous 26.2-mile course for the charity close to his heart.
St Luke’s Hospice is the NACC’s chosen charity and Neel’s marathon effort was the pinnacle of many fundraising activities being undertaken by NACC members across the country, including the charity raffle at the NACC Awards gala dinner, the NACC Marathon Relay, bake sales, tea parties, special events and more.
The year of fundraising activities will conclude in October at the NACC Training & Development Forum when the grand total raised will be revealed.
Neel Radia said: “What an incredible experience the Virgin London Marathon was. I’m still buzzing from taking part and the overwhelming feeling of crossing the finish line. This time last year, I barely ran for a bus so I’m thrilled and proud that I can now call myself a marathon runner!
“More importantly, I’m so happy to have raised such a phenomenal amount for St Luke’s Hospice. St Luke’s is a wonderful place that provides exceptional end-of-life care and comfort to patients and their families. My family has experienced their expertise and warmth on more than one occasion.”
With all its services offered free of charge, St Luke’s relies on the generosity of the community for over 75% of its funding, with at least £3.5 million needed to be raised each year. Neel and the NACC are supporting St Luke’s goal to raise £80,000 to enable the team to care for more people in their own homes at the end of their lives, the place where they feel happiest.
