Carers UK is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chief Executive, Helen Walker.
Helen joins the organisation from the national volunteering charity TimeBank where she has spent ten years as Chief Executive.
Helen will take over as Carers UK’s new Chief Executive on 3rd December 2018. Helen replaces Heléna Herklots CBE, who stepped down after nearly seven years at Carers UK to become the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales.
Helen Walker said: “It’s an honour to be appointed as Chief Executive of Carers UK, the organisation at the forefront of improving the lives of those caring for family and friends.
“I’ve long admired the work of the charity and all it has achieved, leading the carers movement, to strengthen the recognition and support of unpaid carers through its work. Most of us will care at some point in our lives and I look forward to leading the organisation at this crucial time when there are key opportunities to support carers in many ways, in places that they work, live, and connect.
“I am really excited about building on the fantastic legacy that Heléna and the team have built but I know that there is still much for us to do.”
Before joining TimeBank as Chief Executive in 2008, Helen was Director of Fundraising at the military charity SSAFA.
Professor David Grayson CBE, Chairman of Carers UK, said: “With our ageing population and the on-going pressures on public finances, carers need a strong voice and support from Carers UK now more than ever.
“We are very excited that Helen Walker will be our new Chief Executive. She brings a wealth of leadership experience in civil society organisations and strong experience of fundraising and strategic and business planning.
“With Helen’s solid track-record and skills, we will deliver the remaining two years of our current business plan and establish a strong new long-term strategy to build a society that respects, values and supports carers.”
