Quantum Care, a not-for-profit provider of specialist residential, dementia, and respite care, spread a little bit of magic by granting the wishes of residents in one fun-filled, dream-making afternoon.
With over 200 residents brought together in the beautiful Spotlight theatre in Hoddesdon, and special guests including local county councillor, Cllr Tina Howard, residents were treated to a spectacular afternoon of entertainment and wish granting.
Residents from 19 of Quantum’s homes had their wishes granted. These included Ivy from Heath House who received a delicious homemade Victoria sponge cake as her wish. Christine and Joan from the Fairway were equally as delighted when their wishes of having lots of sweets to eat and vouchers to go shopping with were granted.
Amongst all the excitement, the real star of the show was Jean Bean, from Garden City Court in Letchworth, who fulfilled her lifelong dream of singing live on stage when she joined the St John’s School choir to sing.
Residents and guests were also treated to entertainment from dance troupe The Gatsby Girls who not only delighted their audience with performances of jive, Irish dancing and famous numbers from West End shows, but also made one resident’s day by granting their life-long wish to watch a ballet performance live.
Staff were not left out of the festivities with a special presentation from Quantum Care's CEO, Maria Ball, who awarded gifts to those staff and volunteers with over 25 years of service.
The event was part of Quantum Care’s 25th Anniversary celebrations, marking 25 years of delivering specialised residential, respite and dementia care as Hertfordshire’s largest elderly care provider. It was also the culmination of Quantum Care’s innovative Silver Wishes project in which staff committed themselves to granting one wish, no matter how big or small, to each of their 1,600 residents.
Members of the local communities around each of Quantum’s homes have been instrumental in the success of the initiative, with local people and businesses contributing everything from transport, meals and free day trips.
Maria Ball, CEO of Quantum Care, said: “The 100 Wishes event was the perfect way to round off the Silver Wishes initiative. Everyone had an amazing time and it was wonderful to see how happy our residents were when they received their wishes. Events like this one create positive and lasting memories for our residents while embedding the outstanding relationship between our care homes and the local communities.”
