NEW CENTURY CARE MARKS CARE HOME OPEN DAY

Residents, staff and volunteers from two New Century Care homes were joined by visitors to celebrate Care Home Open Day this weekend.

Residents, staff and volunteers from two New Century Care homes were joined by visitors to celebrate Care Home Open Day on Friday 28th June.

The Oaks in Lexden, Colchester, and Southaven Lodge in Woolston, Southampton, took part in the event which encourages communities to engage with the care services provided in their local area and recognise the immeasurable difference they make to the lives of older people.

The Oaks welcomed Lexden Lodge Kindergarten to join them in fun activities. The children took part in an art competition alongside the residents, with colouring pencils and paints giving them the opportunity to express their creativity.

There was plenty more on offer for residents and their families including crocheting, bunting-making and a music and movement session, with percussion instruments enabling people of all abilities to get involved.

Meanwhile, Southaven Lodge were treated to a day filled with all-things American – from a hot dog lunch with chocolate fudge cake, to entertainment provided by Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley impersonator, Dean Ager. The perfect weather prompted many to join in, with lots of singing and dancing over the course of the day.

The Oaks Home Manager, Louise Baxter, said: “It was lovely to welcome so many visitors to participate in our activities for Care Home Open Day. Arts and crafts are always popular at the home, but it was extra special to be joined by the children from Lexden Lodge who added to the lively atmosphere. We’d also like to thank all the families who came along.”

Southaven Lodge Home Manager, Mawuli Mensa, said: “We all really enjoyed hopping across the pond to celebrate Care Home Open Day. Our singer, Dean, was a real treat for our residents and visitors and many were keen to sing along to classic hits.”

The Oaks and Southaven Lodge are part of the New Century Care Group, an expert national care provider specialising in residential, nursing and dementia care.
