To promote World Alzheimer’s Month, Fairmile Grange care home has formed a partnership with the Regent Centre in Christchurch, to provide a dementia-friendly cinema experience for its residents.
Residents of Fairmile Grange recently visited the restored 1930’s art deco cinema to watch the box office hit Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again. As well as watching the film which stars Meryl Streep and many other household names, Fairmile Grange’s residents also enjoyed ice cream and hot drinks.
Gary Theobald, Regent Centre Press Officer, said: “The Regent Centre management was delighted to welcome a party of residents from Fairmile Grange care home to a recent screening of the new Mamma Mia film. The Regent prides itself on being at the very heart of entertainment in Christchurch and is run by the community for all of the community to enjoy together.
“Over 10,000 people have now joined us for screenings of the film and it is our aim to promote inclusivity whenever possible for all members of the community, as we welcome them to live shows and films throughout the year.
“We look forward to seeing the residents of Fairmile Grange again very soon and we are sure they will say ‘Here We Go Again!’”
Following the cinema trip the home welcomed the singing duo, the Land Girls, who performed several Abba crowd favourites for everyone at Fairmile Grange to enjoy.
Mary Maughan-Otten, Home Manager of Fairmile Grange, explained: “As there is still a stigma surrounding dementia and the impact it can have on a person's life, it is important we organise dementia-friendly outings, to help raise awareness about the condition.
“We are delighted to establish a partnership with the Regent Centre, which also recognises the significance of supporting this campaign. Our residents had a fantastic time singing along to the film and we will definitely visit the cinema again soon.”
