Residents of Great Oaks care home in Bournemouth took part in a jam-packed day of Burns Night celebrations to pay homage to the Scottish holiday, on 25th January.

The day kicked off with a traditional bagpipes performance by local musician Alan Cowie, which set the scene for the ‘Address to a Haggis’ which was recited by Great Oaks care staff member Betty Riley. Once the well-known poem was performed by Betty, those that wished to raised a glass of scotch to toast Robert Burns and his legacy, more than 200 years on.
 
Afterwards, everyone tucked into a Scottish traditional lunch of haggis, salmon, neeps and tatties (haggis, turnip and mashed potato). In the afternoon, a selection of Scottish-themed games were played with residents and their friends and family.

Sara Muslin, Home Manager of Great Oaks, said: “It was wonderful to enjoy Burns Night’s festivities with our residents and their families. It is important we continue to offer a variety of activities at our home, as not only do they encourage our residents to socialise, but it has also been proven to boost their mood and overall wellbeing.”
