FREE PODCAST: COMPULSORY CARE VACCINATIONS EXPLAINED

iHASCO has partnered with HR & Employment Law experts at Citation to help care homes make sense of the legislation surrounding compulsory vaccinations.

Under regulations that came into force in July, all those working in a care home setting in England (unless exempt) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by 11 November 2021. This adds further challenges for care home managers but ultimately aims to protect the vulnerable people in their care. Understanding the challenges of these regulations and how to implement them is crucial to avoid any unnecessary complications arising from compulsory vaccination. Even care homes where the majority of staff are vaccinated must consider how they manage the requirement when it comes to new recruits and agency staff.

iHASCO, together with their sister company Citation, have put together a succinct and informative podcast to help refresh and strengthen the understanding of the legislation for those responsible for its implementation in a care home setting.

In just 20 minutes, Gillian McAteer, Head of Employment Law at Citation and Professional Support Lawyer Catherine Hare, discuss a range of HR challenges that arise from the vaccination requirement from exemptions to data protection requirements.

Gill and Catherine raise some important points, to help care homes understand the impact of compulsory vaccinations and what it means for the staff and visitors to the premises. They also provide some useful tips when it comes to consulting with employees, and options available if staff are not vaccinated by the 11 November cut-off point.

They also discuss how businesses that work with the care sector can handle their requirement to only send in fully vaccinated workers inside care homes. A mandatory vaccination policy for these businesses may not be the best way forward, but it is justification to look at roles where they are required to attend care home premises and find out vaccination or exemption status of relevant staff. This is important to be able to meet customer demand and smoothly assist care homes when using external suppliers.

Will Davies, Head of Marketing at iHASCO, said: “We are delighted to partner with Citation to provide this expert podcast, not only to our clients but to anyone in the care sector who is required to have an understanding of the new legislation.

“Our expert knowledge makes a difficult topic easy to understand and digest and we felt providing this as a free resource reflects our company values of making a genuine difference and providing opportunities for continuous learning. We appreciate that care home managers are busy people but this podcast can be instantly accessed to fit in with busy schedules.”
