NATIONAL AWARD FOR LOCKERBIE CARE SERVICE

Mel Ramsey, Chief Executive of Danshell Group

Trinity House in Lockerbie has been recognised for its excellent practice in supporting people with learning disabilities with a prestigious national award.

The team at Trinity House, which is part of the Danshell Group, won the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) ‘Innovative practice in supporting people with intellectual disabilities through positive behaviour support’ award at the BILD Positive Behaviour Support Leadership Awards 2017.

The BILD PBS Leadership Awards recognise good practice and contributions to the development of positive behaviour support practice, and aim to raise practice by recognising work of quality and quality of contribution over time.

The nomination stated that ‘Trinity House demonstrates exceptional practice that has had a positive impact in improving the quality of life for adults with learning disabilities, who can often present with complex behaviours’.

It also highlighted that ‘by following a PBS approach at Trinity House, the service users have greatly benefitted and been able to access the community more often’ and ‘service users have also been able to better utilise their own home environment and have been taught functional skills while living alongside their peers.’

Trinity House is a small residential service, located in Lockerbie, Scotland, for 13 adults with learning disabilities, who often display perceived challenging behaviour or who have complex needs.

Mel Ramsey, Chief Executive of Danshell Group, said: “I am absolutely thrilled for the whole team at Trinity House, who thoroughly deserve this accolade.

“The work they do to ensure that the people they support lead as independent and fulfilling lives as possible is tremendous and I am very proud to work with such wonderful people.”
