A brand-new luxury care home in Droitwich Spa has welcomed it’s very first resident. Chris Allcott has moved into Woodland View, situated on Woodland Way, and has already made plans with the care team to do more cooking and sewing in her new home.
The care home was officially opened last month by The Mayor of Droitwich Spa, Cllr Mr William Moy, and his Consort, Dilys Moy.
Operated by Ideal Carehomes, Woodland View is a residential and dementia care home. It has benefitted from a £12m investment, providing all the finishing touches you would expect from a luxury care home including a plush cinema room, lavish Sky Bar with far-reaching views, a vintage tearoom complete with balcony area, hairdressing salon and airy botanical garden rooms leading onto spacious landscaped gardens.
Chris commented: “I was very excited and honoured to be the first resident to cross the threshold and I was even invited to cut an official ribbon.
“I was made to feel very welcome at Woodland View and visited a number of times to get a feel for it. On one of my visits, Drew made me a delicious pumpkin pie, which I had never had before so I was delighted to have the opportunity to try something new.”
Before she retired, Chris was a company director in sales and marketing for an international engineering company. She also worked for Birmingham University and taught yoga.
She added: “I enjoy painting in water and oil colours and I also love to cook and bake and try new recipes. Drew and I are going to cook together and he’s going to teach me some of his recipes. We may even create our own cookery book.
“We also have an activities co-ordinator, April, who used to be a soft furnishings and blind maker so I am going to ask her to help me to make some new cushion covers with my sewing machine.”
Cindy Hawkins, Woodland View’s Home Manager, said: “It has been a pleasure to welcome Chris to the Woodland View family and we look forward to spending more time with her.
“It is wonderful that Chris has so many interests and our care team are really looking forward to creating some new masterpieces with her in the kitchen and sewing in our library area where we have set up her sewing machine.
“At Woodland View we’re running a special project called #thisisme which pairs residents and staff with shared passions and interests so it is wonderful that Chris and our care team have already found lots of things in common. We are all looking forward to having lots of fun with Chris and all our new residents at Woodland View.”
