Trinity Homecare is committed to offering more than just care – providing companionship, support, and life-changing moments. This is exemplified in the inspiring story of Bernie, a remarkable man whose journey of resilience and self-discovery was made possible through the dedicated support of his Trinity carer, Juliano.

Together, they embarked on an incredible quest to uncover Bernie’s family history – one that would ultimately lead to a long-lost brother and a newfound sense of belonging.

Bernie was born with cerebral palsy and faced significant challenges in his early years. Due to a speech impediment, he was mistakenly placed in a psychiatric hospital, where his abilities were not fully recognised. As a result, he experienced a period of isolation with limited family contact.

Despite these difficulties, Bernie remained curious about his past. His determination to learn more about his origins never wavered, shaping his journey of self-discovery.

For nearly five years, Bernie has been supported by his live-in carer, Juliano. More than just providing daily care, Juliano became a trusted friend, always encouraging Bernie’s quest to uncover his family history. Their bond grew stronger as they worked together to seek the answers Bernie had long been searching for.

With Juliano’s support, Bernie took a bold step by signing up for the genetic research platform 23andMe. What started as a hopeful attempt to connect with his roots quickly turned into a journey of incredible discovery.

After months of waiting and persistent searching, Bernie received life-changing news - he had a half-brother named Daniel. Along with this revelation came the identity of Bernie’s father and the surname he would have carried had his life taken a different course.

When Bernie and Juliano first reached out, Daniel was stunned. Having grown up as an only child in a close-knit family, he had never imagined he had a sibling. Daniel and his wife visited Bernie, bringing the brothers together for the first time. It was an emotional and deeply moving moment, filled with heartfelt conversations, laughter, and a newfound understanding of their shared past.

Since that first meeting, Bernie and Daniel have continued to nurture their relationship. They meet every couple of weeks, strengthening their connection with each visit. For Bernie, this newfound bond is more than just a long-lost family connection - it’s the start of a new chapter filled with love, belonging and the promise of more discoveries.

Juliano comments: “I am very excited to have helped Bernie to find his lost family. He has been through unbelievable hardship in his life, it's amazing to see him having a real connection with his half-brother and his family.”

Trinity Homecare is proud to support individuals like Bernie in leading fulfilling, purposeful lives. His story highlights the power of perseverance, friendship, and compassionate care.
