MINIATURE THERAPY PONY BRINGS JOY TO LLANDUDNO CARE HOME

Miniature therapy pony brings joy to Llandudno care home

Residents at RMBI Care Co. Home Queen Elizabeth Court, in Llandudno, know from have recently enjoyed a friendly visit from Sparkles, a miniature black-and-white Shetland pony.

Laura Owen, owner of Sparkles Pony Parties, led Sparkles all around the Home so that residents could pet and stroke her. They even stopped off at some residents’ rooms so that they could be introduced.

The benefits of spending time with animals for older people are immense. Research has shown that having something to pet or touch can result in lower blood pressure, normal heart rate and reduced stress. Pets provide emotional stability during stressful situations, helping to reduce anxiety and depression.

Rachael, one of the Home’s Activities Coordinators, said: “Sparkles was so patient and placid, standing still for everyone to pet and stroke her. Our residents loved meeting her and hearing all about her from Laura. It was a lovely afternoon which certainly lifted everyone’s spirits!”
