ALOHA PRESTON!

Penwortham Grange and Lodge care home brings the tropics to Preston

Penwortham Grange and Lodge Care Home in Preston recently transformed itself into a tropical paradise, hosting a colourful Hawaiian-themed party for the people who live at the home, friends and families.

Part of the Orchard Care Homes group, which runs 23 homes in the north of England and Midlands, the home spared no effort in decorating for this special event. In every corner you could find palm trees, tropical flowers, grass skirts and flower leis for everyonewho wanted to get dressed up.

The party was brought to life by Ian from Music in Mind, who came equipped with multiple musical instruments to put on a show for the people of the home.

His performance featured a range of well-loved songs such as Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond, Let Your Love Flow by The Bellamy Brothers, We Are Family by Sister Sledge and many more, with everyone singing along and dancing.

One of the highlights of the event came from Graham, who has only lived at the home for two weeks, when he took to the stage to show his new friends his talent on the guitar.

He played and sang classics like Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash and Take Me Home Country Roads by John Denver. His talent and enthusiasm was warmly received by all, and some tears were even shed by the care team.

No party would be complete without a buffet and a couple of tropical-themed cocktails. The party even had a doughnut and prosecco wall for those who wanted a sweet treat. Joan, who lives at the home praised the care team’s efforts and said: “Well done, this is all delicious.”

Vera, who also lives at the home, danced and sang along to all 20 songs performed by Music in Mind added: “It’s so special being able to dance with all my friends. The activities team has done such a fantastic job at organising this Hawaiian party. I especially love my straw skirt and flower lei.”

Selina Mountford, Home Manager said: “It's incredibly moving to see our people enjoying themselves so much. We pour our hearts into creating memorable experiences for them, so hearing their appreciation directly is always lovely. A huge well done to the Penwortham Grange and Lodge team for organising this smashing party!”
