Launching in September, Oakland Care will be participating in a range of green initiatives across their eight care homes in London and the South East.
Residents and team members will be enjoying numerous activities during the provider’s annual ‘Green Week’. This will include litter picking, beach cleans, tree planting, and the creation of butterfly and bee gardens to improve biodiversity.
Homes will also be hosting guest speakers and events, with speakers from the Essex Forestry Initiative, Epping Forest Heritage Trust, and the RSPCA. Elsyng House Care Home in Enfield will also be celebrating their Wildlife Day with the local Mayor in attendance.
As part of their strategy to encourage positive environmental change in social care, Oakland Care will be going one step further this year, with even more events planned, stretching across the whole of September. This includes joining millions around the globe to celebrate Recycling Week between the 19-25 September, where homes will be focusing on improving their established recycling initiatives even further.
The launch of the next stage of their journey comes as Oakland Care continue to push the boundaries of sustainability in social care; aiming to achieve a Level 3 certificate by Green Mark, the highest grade awarded by the sustainability specialists, and bolster their credentials with BREEAM – the world’s leading assessment method for sustainable buildings, and an accreditation. The care provider has already made great strides with, achieving an ‘Excellent’ rating at their with Elmbrook Court Care Home, and ‘Very Good’ ratings for Elsyng House and Woodland Grove.
To mark this pivotal achievement for the pioneering care group, Oakland Care will also be launching their new ‘greener choice’ branding to raise awareness of their leading strategy on sustainability in the care sector.
Joanne Balmer BEM, Chief Operating Officer of Oakland Care, said: “We’re extremely excited to launch the next stage of our sustainability journey this September. Following the success of our previous Green Week’s, we are eager to go one step further this year and build on the incredible progress we have made on our sustainability journey. This will see everyone across Oakland Care work as one as we look to demonstrate how our sector can be a positive force in the fight against climate change.
“As the UK’s only carbon neutral care group for a second year in a row, we want to continue encouraging other care home providers to push ahead with their own journey to improve sustainability.
“Together, our industry can drive real change to alleviate the climate emergency, while empowering our residents and team members to make their mark on this crucial issue.”
