COUPLE CELEBRATES GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY AT SOUTHAMPTON CARE HOME

Golden Wedding Anniversary

Southampton locals Fred and Sandy Knight celebrated 50 years of marriage at South Haven Lodge care home in Woolston on 5th July.

Fred met Sandy in 1968 when he was in Southampton after completing his National Service. The pair first met at Southampton night club The Top Rank, which elderly members of the local community remember as a firm favourite at the time. Sandy called it “love at first sight”.

Soon after meeting, Fred and Sandy got married in a close-knit ceremony with family and friends in 1969.

When asked what the secret to a long and happy marriage is, Sandy said: “Arguments happen, but try to avoid them and, where possible, reach a compromise.”

It was a double celebration for the couple as Fred, who lives at South Haven Lodge, also marked his 79th birthday on 8th July. To celebrate the couple’s milestone anniversary, the team at South Haven Lodge presented the couple with a bouquet of flowers.

Mawuli Mensa, the Home Manager of South Haven Lodge, said: “At New Century Care, we pride ourselves in making every effort to ensure that our residents can celebrate special occasions with their loved ones.

“We are honoured to have shared such a special moment between Fred and Sandy.”

South Haven Lodge care home is part of the New Century Care group, an expert national care provider specialising in residential, nursing and dementia care, providing fulfilling lives to residents in a happy and homely setting.
