A couple living at Kingsgate care home in East Kilbride, Scotland, have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary in style with their fellow residents.

David and Anne Taylor, who are 93 and 91 respectively, enjoyed remembering their special day on 9th September 1950 with a lovely cake and songs. 

The couple were both brought up in the East End of Glasgow, living in Dennistoun and Garthamlock before moving to East Kilbride. They met through David’s cousin and took an instant liking to each other, with romance soon blooming. 

The wedding was a small, family affair, with David and Anne both wearing suits. The couple went on to have three children together.

David was in the navy where he trained as an electrician and worked on plane engines and electrics.  He then worked in Blochairn steelworks before moving to British Rail. Anne was a tailor and enjoyed making gents’ suits, bridal gowns and special occasion dresses.  

Anne said: “David and I have spent many lovely years together and I’m so pleased that we could celebrate our platinum wedding anniversary with our wonderful friends at Kingsgate care home.

“The staff made a very special effort to help us celebrate our day and we both had a lovely time.”

David added: “I’d like to thank the staff for planning a lovely party for us, we had a great time and I especially enjoyed learning about historical moments that happened on our wedding day and during 1950. 

“Our secret to staying married for so long is to be kind and attentive to one another, and to avoid arguments; your wife is always right!”

Anne Marie McKeich, Home Manager at Kingsgate Care Home, said: “David and Anne are a wonderful couple. They’re big characters here at Kingsgate. I’m pleased that they enjoyed their celebration and I look forward to helping them make more memories together in the future.”
